Crystal Lake: Peacock and A24 Turn Friday the 13th Into Fall’s Most Promising Horror Event.
This October is shaping up to be a dream month for horror fans, but one title is already stealing the spotlight: Crystal Lake, Peacock’s ambitious prequel to the legendary Friday the 13th franchise. With A24 behind the project and a chilling new trailer setting the tone, the series is emerging as the most intriguing horror release of the season.

A Tragedy That Births a Legend
The trailer centers on Pam Voorhees (Linda Cardellini), who arrives at the Crystal Lake summer camp with her young son, Jason. What begins as a fresh start quickly spirals into tragedy when Jason drowns. Pam’s grief becomes the emotional core of the series — a descent into paranoia, obsession, and possibly something supernatural.
As Pam struggles with the loss, strange events begin to plague the camp. People disappear. Bodies turn up. The trailer refuses to reveal the source of the violence, but the atmosphere is unmistakable: Crystal Lake is becoming a nightmare long before Jason dons his iconic mask.

A24 Embraces the Slasher Roots
Despite being a prestige miniseries, Crystal Lake doesn’t shy away from the franchise’s slasher DNA. The trailer is packed with gore, tension, and the sweaty, dangerous energy of 1970s horror. A24’s involvement suggests a blend of elevated psychological storytelling with the raw brutality fans expect.
The timeline has also been shifted — Jason’s death now occurs in 1971, not 1957 as in the original film. This update opens the door for new narrative possibilities and deeper exploration of the Voorhees family before the events of the classic movies.

Premiere Date and Episode Details
Crystal Lake premieres October 15, exclusively on Peacock. The season will consist of eight one-hour episodes, all dropping at once.
Brad Caleb Kane (It: Welcome to Derry, Tokyo Vice, Warrior) serves as creator and showrunner. The cast includes William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom alongside Cardellini.
Will Jason Appear?
Kane teased that fans should expect more Jason than they might assume:
“They’ll see more than they think they will. No hockey mask, because we don’t reach Part Three, but that doesn’t mean we don’t go into mask territory. And that doesn’t mean we don’t see Jason — potentially very clearly.”
This hint suggests the series will explore Jason’s mythology in fresh ways without contradicting the established canon.
Crystal Lake Is Already a Must-Watch
With its blend of slasher violence, psychological horror, and A24’s signature style, Crystal Lake is poised to become the standout horror event of fall 2026. If the trailer is any indication, fans of the franchise — and newcomers — are in for a bloody, atmospheric, and emotionally charged ride.
