Drew Barrymore Might Return for a New Charlie’s Angels Movie — And Fans Already Have One Big Wish.
Hollywood is deep in its nostalgia era, reviving some of the biggest franchises of the late ’90s and early 2000s. With sequels to The Mummy, Practical Magic and The Devil Wears Prada on the way, it seems only fitting that Charlie’s Angels could be next in line. And now, a new report suggests that Sony Pictures is indeed preparing to call the Angels back into action — with Drew Barrymore potentially involved.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony has hired Pete Chiarelli — known for The Proposal and Crazy Rich Asians — to write the script for a new Charlie’s Angels film. But the detail that truly electrified fans is the mention of Drew Barrymore and her production company, Flower Films, being attached to the project.

That immediately sparks one big hope: Could this mean a reunion of the iconic 2000s trio — Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu?
The idea isn’t far‑fetched. Over the past few years, all three actresses have expressed openness to returning:
- Drew Barrymore said in 2022 she’d make Charlie’s Angels 3 “in a heartbeat.”
- Lucy Liu shared in 2024 that she’d “never say no,” though she wasn’t sure a sequel would ever materialize.
- Cameron Diaz, while promoting Back in Action, said a reunion “would be amazing.”
If the script is strong and schedules align, the stars might finally reassemble — though Bill Murray, given past on‑set tensions with Liu, is unlikely to return.
Sony last attempted to reboot the franchise in 2019 with Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska. Despite Elizabeth Banks directing, the film underperformed at the box office and struggled with its marketing identity. Both Banks and Stewart later expressed frustrations with the experience.

A revival featuring the original trio could be exactly what the franchise needs — a blend of nostalgia, chemistry and star power that audiences still remember fondly.
All three actresses have full schedules:
- Barrymore hosts The Drew Barrymore Show in New York.
- Diaz is set to star alongside Keanu Reeves in Outcome and will return as Princess Fiona in Shrek 5.
- Liu appears next in The Devil Wears Prada 2, releasing this summer.
With the script still in development, it may be a while before we hear more — but fans are already crossing their fingers that the 2000s Angels will once again answer Charlie’s call.
