Is Hugh Jackman returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wolverine with Avengers: Doomsday?

Hugh Jackman, who was last seen as Wolverine in the 2024 movie Deadpool & Wolverine, said, “I’m never saying ‘never’ ever again.”

Is Hugh Jackman returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wolverine with Avengers: Doomsday? The actor had officially retired from the iconic role with the 2017 film, Logan, which was meant to end the character’s story. But he decided to surprise his fans by wearing the classic yellow-and-blue suit in Deadpool & Wolverine, alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool.

The superhero action, directed by Shawn Levy, became the second-highest-grossing film of 2024, earning $1.3 billion at the box office and receiving several awards. With the film’s immense success, fans questioned if the 57-year-old actor would return to the screen to play Wolverine. The answer to that question is his words, “Never say never.”

he Greatest Showman star is definitely correct in saying that, at this point, Disney, Marvel and 20th Century Studios have plenty of footage of him as Logan.

The House of Mouse actually did use AI and file footage to help craft a version of a character in a film, though. I’m talking about young Indiana Jones in The Dial of Destiny. However, like myself, I’d like to think that should Wolvie return, fans would like to see Jackman actually playing him in real time.

Hugh Jackman isn’t opposed to playing Wolverine again, though I’d imagine there would just have to be a compelling story on that front. With the Deadpool threequel, Ryan Reynolds was able to lure his pal out of his self imposed X-Men movie retirement with the film’s depiction of an emotionally broken Logan who aligns himself with Wade Wilson to protect the multiverse. If any upcoming superhero movie could top that narrative it would probably be Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.
