Johnny Depp’s Hollywood Comeback Accelerates With Stylish Thriller Day Drinker.
Johnny Depp’s return to major studio projects is gaining momentum. Lionsgate has unveiled the first teaser for Day Drinker, a revenge thriller directed by Marc Webb that reunites Depp with Penélope Cruz for their third on‑screen collaboration. The trailer signals a moody, seductive, and dangerous story set against the backdrop of a luxury yacht — and Hollywood is already buzzing.
A Dangerous Encounter at Sea
Madelyn Cline stars as a private‑yacht bartender whose quiet routine is disrupted when she meets a mysterious passenger played by Depp. Their connection quickly spirals into a web of secrets, manipulation, and criminal entanglements — with Cruz portraying a powerful figure tied to the darker side of the maritime underworld.
Depp’s character, sporting an Irish accent, teases the film’s tone with the line: “Don’t you sometimes want to misbehave?” It’s a promise of the seductive chaos that defines the trailer.

A Double Dose of Depp
Day Drinker arrives during a period of renewed visibility for Depp. Earlier this summer, audiences got their first look at Ti West’s dark reimagining of A Christmas Carol titled Ebenezer. That film premieres November 13, 2026, while Day Drinker hits theaters March 26, 2027 — marking two major releases within a few months.
For an actor who spent years away from Hollywood’s spotlight following the 2016 allegations and the high‑profile 2022 defamation trial, this pair of projects represents a significant resurgence.

Pirates of the Caribbean: A Possible Return
In August, longtime franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that discussions are underway for Depp to potentially return as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. “We’re talking with Johnny, we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done,” Bruckheimer said — a statement that sent fans into a frenzy.

What Day Drinker Means for Depp’s Career
The film positions Depp in a role that blends mystery, charm, and danger — the kind of character he’s long been celebrated for. Paired with Cruz and guided by Webb’s sleek direction, Day Drinker could become a defining moment in his comeback narrative.
