Sony Lands Michelle Yeoh’s High-Voltage Action Thriller The Surgeon.

A Retired Surgeon, a Kidnapping, and Anatomical Justice

In The Surgeon, Yeoh plays a newly retired surgeon who is kidnapped and forced to operate on a mysterious patient. When she realizes she’s trapped in a deadly conspiracy, she uses her medical expertise to fight her way out — dispatching enemies with razor‑sharp anatomical precision.

The film is written and directed by Roshan Sethi, a real‑life medical doctor who insisted his M.D. title appear in the credits to boost authenticity. As he told The Hollywood Reporter, the realism is part of the thrill: viewers feel they’re witnessing techniques and knowledge usually hidden from the public.

TIFF Buzz and Critical Praise

Before its festival debut, The Surgeon was already generating strong industry buzz. After the premiere, THR critic Caryn James described it as “a genre‑bending swirl… part tense crime thriller, part action movie, part midnight movie, all infused with witty touches. It is wildly entertaining.”
