National Treasure 3 Is Finally Happening — Nicolas Cage Returns to the Hunt.
More than twenty years after National Treasure first hit theaters, fans can finally celebrate: a third film is officially in development, and Nicolas Cage is back as Benjamin Gates.
A Long‑Awaited Confirmation
During a live recording of the National Treasure Hunt podcast on August 21, director Jon Turteltaub revealed the news fans have been waiting for:
“It’s happening. You’re the first people I have said this out loud to.”
Turteltaub emphasized that the project is “Hollywood real,” meaning it’s genuinely moving forward — though, as always in the industry, unexpected changes can happen. Still, the key milestone is already behind them: the script is written and approved by both Disney and Turteltaub himself.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has also given the script his blessing, strengthening the film’s momentum.

While plot details remain under wraps, fans are hoping the movie will finally address the unresolved mystery from National Treasure: Book of Secrets: the enigmatic Page 47 in the President’s Book of Secrets. The cliffhanger has been a source of speculation for nearly two decades.
The 2022 Disney+ series National Treasure: Edge of History briefly revisited the franchise’s world — even featuring cameos from Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel — but it only intensified the desire for a true continuation of the original storyline.
