Nicholas Hoult to Play Gilderoy Lockhart in HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Season 2.
Nicholas Hoult has officially joined the cast of HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series, taking on the role of Gilderoy Lockhart in Season 2 — the arc adapting Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
A New Lockhart for a New Era
Lockhart, one of the most flamboyant and comically self‑absorbed characters in the franchise, is introduced as a celebrated wizard‑author whose heroic tales fill entire shelves. Beneath the glamour, however, lies incompetence, vanity, and a talent for taking credit for other people’s achievements. In Hogwarts, he becomes the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor — and quickly proves he’s wildly unqualified.
The role was previously portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 film adaptation.
