Queen Elizabeth II’s former spokesman revealed who was the best actress in “The Crown”

“The Crown” is a Netflix series about the Windsor family and the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. A few days ago, the last season of the series premiered. Three actresses played the role of the queen in the series. Which actress was the best? The Queen’s former press secretary commented on this matter.

In the now completed series “The Crown”, we followed the actions of Queen Elizabeth II from the time of her coronation until the beginning of the 21st century. During this time, she was played by three actresses – Claire Foy (seasons 1-2), Olivia Colman (3-4) and Imelda Staunton (5-6). Which of them was the best in her role? This was assessed by the Queen’s former press spokesman, Dickie Arbiter, who held this position from 1988 to 2000.

Dickie Arbiter has reservations about the performances of Colman and Staunton. Arbiter said he did not recognize the “drawn” woman played by Colman. He also said that Staunton played the queen too gloomy.

He told Deadline: “I don’t remember her being glum and boring. Glum if there was a death in the family or one of the dogs had to be put down, but she was playing glum and boring right the way through.”

Arbiter credited Staunton with capturing the Queen well in one scene: when she delivered an address to the nation after Princess Diana’s death. Arbiter played a key role in orchestrating the speech in real life.

The royal commentator’s favorite portrayal came from Foy. Arbiter said she was brilliant.
