Robert De Niro Wants to Rewatch His Entire Filmography: “It Would Be My Own Festival.”
Robert De Niro has appeared in more than 100 films across six decades — and now, at 83, he says he wants to revisit every single one of them. The legendary actor revealed the idea during his appearance on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, where Poehler praised him as “the best actor of our generation.”
A Massive Cinematic Journey
De Niro admitted he has never rewatched all his films, despite thinking about it for years. “I’ve always wanted to watch all the movies I did, from the latest one all the way down or the earliest ones,” he said. “Just go through them all.”
But he quickly added that such a marathon would be a huge undertaking — one easier imagined than executed.

A Personal Film Festival
Poehler joked that the project would resemble De Niro’s own film festival. The actor, who co‑founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2002, didn’t dismiss the idea. “There’s no downside to doing that,” he said.
For De Niro, the motivation is artistic reflection: “I wanted to get a sense of what I’ve done, and where I could go, what’s missing, so I can make a choice of something different.”

From “Greetings” to “Killers of the Flower Moon”
De Niro’s career began in the late 1960s, with his first major role in Brian De Palma’s Greetings (1968). His partnership with Martin Scorsese soon followed, producing some of cinema’s most iconic titles:
- Mean Streets (1973)
- Taxi Driver (1976)
- Raging Bull (1980) – earning him his second Oscar
- The King of Comedy (1982)
- Cape Fear (1991)
- Casino (1995)
- The Irishman (2019)
- Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
His filmography also spans comedies (Meet the Parents, Dirty Grandpa), dramas (Silver Linings Playbook, The Intern), television (The Wizard of Lies), and directing (A Bronx Tale). In total, he has earned nine Oscar nominations and 11 Golden Globe nominations.
The Goodfellas Scene That Still Sparks Debate
Poehler asked De Niro about a famous moment in Goodfellas (1990), where his character Jimmy Conway sends Karen Hill toward an alley, supposedly to pick up Dior clothes. The tension of the scene has fueled decades of speculation: was Jimmy planning to kill her?
De Niro said Scorsese instructed him to play the moment casually and ambiguously. “In life people don’t indicate what they’re doing. They just do,” he explained.
He leaned toward the idea that “something would happen,” but avoided signaling it — keeping the audience guessing 36 years later.
What’s Next for De Niro?
De Niro currently stars in The Whisper Man alongside Adam Scott and Michelle Monaghan. This November, he returns as Jack Byrnes in Focker‑in‑Law, the newest installment of the Meet the Parents franchise, featuring Ariana Grande.
