Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Reveal New Plot Details for Practical Magic 2: “The Witches Are Back!”.

More than two decades after Practical Magic cast its spell on audiences, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are officially bringing the Owens sisters back to the big screen. The actresses unveiled new plot details and a fresh teaser for Practical Magic 2 during their appearance at CinemaCon on Tuesday, April 14, sparking excitement among longtime fans of the beloved witchy classic.

A Magical Reunion at CinemaCon

Bullock, 61, and Kidman, 58, opened their presentation with a playful nod to Kidman’s now-iconic AMC Theatres advertisement. “Why do we come here, Nicole?” Bullock teased. “We come to this place for magic,” Kidman replied, earning cheers from the audience.

“The witches are back!” Kidman declared, while Bullock jokingly accused her co-star of stealing her line.

What the New Teaser Reveals

In the teaser, Bullock’s character Sally Owens reintroduces viewers to the legendary Massachusetts family known for its supernatural lineage. The sequel follows Sally’s daughters, now young adults, as they confront their own magical destinies. Meanwhile, Gillian Owens (Kidman) has settled into a quieter life — accompanied, fittingly, by a black cat.

Their peaceful routine is disrupted when a mysterious stranger, played by Lee Pace, arrives in their quaint New England town with a new quest that pulls the sisters back into the heart of magical danger.

Kidman revealed that the production team rebuilt the iconic Owens family home for the sequel, promising a return to the atmospheric charm fans remember. “We also have our past catching up with us, and we have our destinies and we have our family,” she said.

Bullock added a hint about Sally’s romantic life, quipping, “Sally is single, and if you know the original film, you can probably guess why,” referencing the infamous Owens family curse that dooms the men they love.

Behind the Scenes: Midnight Margaritas Return

On the same day as the CinemaCon reveal, Bullock joined Instagram and posted a behind-the-scenes clip from the set. Wearing a pink bell-sleeved dress, she pointed to a margarita pitcher — a clear homage to the fan-favorite “midnight margaritas” scene from the first film. “Midnight somewhere…” she captioned the video, sending fans into a frenzy of nostalgia.

A New Generation Joins the Owens Legacy

The sequel introduces several new cast members, including Joey King as one of Sally’s daughters, along with Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod. Beloved original cast members Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest will also reprise their roles as the eccentric, wise, and endlessly charming aunts — Franny and Jet Owens.

A New Director, Same Enchantment

Directed by Susanne Bier, who takes over from original director Griffin Dunne, Practical Magic 2 aims to honor the spirit of Alice Hoffman’s novel while expanding the Owens family saga for a new generation. “Twenty-five years ago, Sally, Gillian, Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny flew off the pages of Alice Hoffman’s beloved novel and into theaters around the world,” the filmmaking team said in a 2025 statement. “We are thrilled to bring the Owens family back with Joey, Lee, Maisie, Solly and Xolo joining the next chapter.”

Release Date

Practical Magic 2 is set to hit theaters on September 18, 2026, promising a blend of nostalgia, romance, family bonds, and — of course — a touch of witchcraft.
