Excitement around Spider-Man: Brand New Day just jumped a level. Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman has revealed that he’s already seen the dailies from the upcoming 2026 film — and his reaction has fans buzzing.
Although the movie is still deep in production and hasn’t released a trailer, Rothman’s early praise suggests something special is taking shape.
Speaking in a clip shared by Variety, Rothman emphasized that while he hasn’t watched a full cut yet, what he has seen looks “surprising” and “terrific.” Even more intriguing is his focus on the film working not just as a superhero spectacle, but as a strong movie in its own right. In a genre often weighed down by universe-building, that distinction feels intentional.

Rothman also singled out director Destin Daniel Cretton, calling his work “tremendous.” With Cretton stepping in after Shang-Chi and briefly being attached to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, his vision for Spider-Man appears to be resonating early.
Of course, the big question remains: is this Tom Holland’s final outing as Peter Parker? Rothman dodged the topic with a laugh, hinting that the decision may ultimately rest with Holland himself.
For now, fans can take comfort in one thing — the people behind Brand New Day seem genuinely excited about what they’re creating. And if the studio head is already impressed by raw footage, the finished film might deliver something fresh when it swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
