Sydney Sweeney Turns Her ‘The Housemaid’ Red Carpet Look Into a Marilyn Monroe Style Tribute

Sydney Sweeney attempted to pay tribute to Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white halter dress.

On Monday, Dec. 15, the actress, 28, attended the premiere of The Housemaid at TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. She wore a custom white halter-neck dress by the bridal designer Galia Lahav.

The gown had a waist-cinching bodice and a sweeping skirt with a feathered hem — similar to the dress Marilyn Monroe famously wore in the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch.

Sweeney longs to be your modern Monroe.

The Euphoria star, who stars in The Housemaid alongside Amanda Seyfried, wore her hair in loose waves and completed her look with a shimmery eye and bold red lipstick — also in ode to Monroe’s unforgettable look in the classic film.

The similarities between Sweeney’s The Housemaid gown and Monroe’s most famous white dress are undeniable. In 1955’s Seven Year Itch, the actor wore an almost identical halter, complete with a corset and a pleated midi skirt. When Monroe posed over a New York City subway grate, however, her dress was feather-less and three inches shorter.

The Housemaid is based on the 2022 psychological thriller novel by Freida McFadden. In the film, Millie (played by Sweeney) is tormented at her dream job by the increasingly volatile Nina (Seyfried).

Sweeney was joined on the red carpet by her costar Seyfried, 40, who wore a shimmering red dress from Monse’s Pre-Fall 2026 collection. The actress paired the look with gold heeled sandals.

For the premiere afterparty, Sweeney changed into another white dress — a strapless mini with floral appliques, paired with white pumps.
