The Day Henry Cavill Said ‘Sometimes’

Held the Door for Me, Then Delivered a Very Cool One-Liner’: Producer Shares Memorable Encounter with Henry Cavill

Even though David Corenswet now carries the mantle of Superman in the new DC Universe, Henry Cavill’s era as the Man of Steel remains iconic for many fans. One Hollywood producer has now shared a brief but unforgettable moment with Cavill during the height of his Superman fame — a moment punctuated by what he calls “one of the coolest lines I’ve ever heard.”

Alan Powell, co-founder of Monarch Media, recalled on Instagram how, around the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he found himself holding a hotel door open for a steady stream of guests. After nearly a minute, someone finally stepped in to take over — and when Powell turned around, he realized it was Henry Cavill himself.

Instinctively, Powell blurted out: “Whoa, you’re Superman!” Cavill simply smiled and replied: “Sometimes.” Then he walked inside. According to Powell, it was “the coolest line ever.”

The story resurfaced just as Zack Snyder shared a photo of Cavill wearing the original Christopher Reeve Superman suit — a nostalgic reminder of the actor’s tenure as DC’s most famous hero. Cavill’s final appearance as Superman came in the post‑credits scene of Black Adam, before DC Studios opted to reboot the character under James Gunn and Peter Safran.

While Cavill’s future in the DC Universe remains uncertain, his career is far from slowing down. He is set to star in the Highlander reboot, In the Grey, Enola Holmes 3, and a live‑action Voltron film. And for fans who miss his Superman, all his appearances remain available to stream — while they secretly hope to stumble upon him in real life just like Powell did.
