The fifth film in the post-apocalyptic “Mad Max” series, “Furiosa”, will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15 – but out of competition.
Anya Taylor-Joy holds the title role of Furiosa – a character played by Charlize Theron in the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road, which also premiered at Cannes.

Chris Hemsworth plays the warlord and gang leader Warlord Dementus in the upcoming film – which is both a side story and a precursor to the action of “Fury Road”.
Series creator George Miller is directing as usual.
The “Mad Max” series began with a low-budget action film in 1979 about a future Australia facing societal collapse. It was Mel Gibson’s international breakthrough.
Gibson made two sequels in the 1980s. One of them, “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome”, had Tina Turner on the cast. The series returned in 2015 with the critically acclaimed Fury Road, which won six awards at the Oscars the following year.
Regular cinema premiere for “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is 24 May.
