The producer behind “Titanic” and “Avatar” Jon Landau has died

Film producer Jon Landau has died, aged 63. Among other things, he worked closely with director James Cameron on the “Titanic” and “Avatar” series.


Jon Landau, was an American film producer, who won an Academy Award for Best Picture for producing James Cameron’s disaster film Titanic (1997). He was also nominated for producing Cameron’s science fiction films Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). As of 2024, these are three of the four highest-grossing films of all time.

The death was announced by Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, in a statement on Saturday.

The cause of death has not been given.
