Star Wars fans gathered in Japan during Easter received major news before its official announcement: The film Starfighter is set for release in May 2027, with Ryan Gosling in the lead role.
When Gosling appeared on stage at the event at Makuhari Messe outside Tokyo, cheering fans waved lightsabers in excitement.

The Barbie star, in turn, showcased a childhood bedsheet covered in illustrations from the legendary film series.
“I guess I was dreaming about Star Wars even before I saw the movies,” Gosling said.
Shawn Levy is set to direct the film. He revealed that Star Wars: Starfighter is neither a prequel nor a sequel but a brand-new, standalone story with fresh characters.
The story takes place several years after Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, which was released in 2019.
