“Women Like Us”: Whoopi Goldberg Leads All‑Star Cast in New Netflix Comedy.

Netflix is gearing up for a major comedy event with Women Like Us, a star‑studded original film featuring Hollywood icons Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox. The project marks the first collaboration between two powerhouse production companies: Higher Ground, founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, and MACRO Film Studios, led by Charles D. King.

The film will be directed by Tasha Smith, known for her work on Bel-Air, Harlem, and Mayor of Kingstown. Smith is already deeply connected to Netflix, currently directing the upcoming film ’Tis So Sweet and appearing in the comedy series Survival of the Thickest.

The script comes from Ali Kinney, a writer on Netflix’s hit series Ginny & Georgia, with additional writing from Tracy Oliver, the creative force behind Girls Trip, The Blackening, and Harlem.

Production teams from both studios are involved: James Lopez and Poppy Hanks for MACRO, and Anikah McLaren and Mark R. Wright for Higher Ground. Executive producers include Michelle Obama and Charles D. King.

Netflix describes the film as a heartfelt and humorous journey:

“When a recently widowed woman is dragged to the Hamptons by her lifelong best friends and sister on what should have been her 30th anniversary, the weekend becomes a reckoning… and a realization that dreams don’t have an expiration date.”

Filming is scheduled to begin in Fall 2026 in New York City, with a tight shooting window between September 22 and October 31. The project is currently using the working title Women of a Certain Vintage.
